My Day In The Boardroom

A lot has happened since I posted my update on my stats. Webinars, seminars, workshops, the Internet Millionaire Summit, mentoring, coaching, and there is still so much more to come in the very near future.

The result: I am hardly able to come up for air. I am almost drowning in information overload. I can see opportunities, possibilities, tempting departures in so many directions. It is a true firework of ideas, impressions and information.

This is a real danger, though, not just a figment of a feverish imagination.

Why?

Because if I don’t do something very, very soon and radical at that about it, I could well end up like fireworks: a dazzling light, then a big bang, my head disperses in all directions and the ideas extinguish before the embers even hit the ground.

It is time for My Day In The Boardroom:

As you just saw, when I hit this level of saturation, I close my computer, take pen and paper, and after thorough preparation I disappear for a day or even just an hour or two to my boardroom, far from telephone, email and all the tantalising online distractions.

I am sure you can’t wait not only to learn that my day in the boardroom has been very productive, but also what it produced:

I have drawn up a schedule for a program that will show you how to make videos like this one, or ‘Fame At Last’, for absolutely zero cost. It will be a step-by-step guide in sight, sound and print. By the time you’ll read this, the ebook will have been virtually completed and the video program is being fleshed out in detail on paper.

At the same time, my idea for a membership program has been moved one step closer to realisation. The conceptual framework is now in place. Next, I need to get the details sorted out.

What’s still missing is the timetable for these two projects. This will have to be completed by Wednesday evening. Right now, it’s the weekend before the Wednesday, so I’ll have my work cut out for two reasons.

‘Shooting’ must start the week after next. That’s reason no. 1. It cannot start earlier, because I’ll be at another 4 day Internet marketing event from Thursday until Sunday. That’s reason no. 2.

Yes, I am exposing myself to more information that could lead to overload yet again, so soon after the last incidence. That’s a real danger as it could trigger temporal mental paralysis provoked by the “latest shiny new object” syndrome. But I also know that I’ll get invaluable information just from attending the event that will allow me to cut production time significantly. Perhaps I ought to leave anything resembling a credit card at home…?

There you have it. I had a good day at the boardroom, and I added a vital ingredient that will make completion of my tasks so much easier: I made myself publicly accountable to you! Please, hold me to it.

Of course, I also look forward to your comments.

Thank you for your help.

  1. Hey Max,

Cool video, was nice to see you again.

I am a bit similar to you, I kinda disappear to get my head straight, lately I have been working “offline” I mean with no live internet connection as I find it distracts me too much.

Your ebook is fab, really well written and simple to follow, no one should struggle to create a video now, Sally 🙂

    1. Thank you, Sally.

I was wondering where you had disappeared to 🙂

Frankly, I’ll have to do the same. Too much interruption when email, Skype and telephone are up and running all the time.

I look forward to seeing your new product.

  2. Hi Max,

    Very Inspiring Post!

You really calm me down quite a bit.

It could be very overwhelming at times, if only we have more
time like this to slow down, re-think before we move on….
and moving according to our bigger perspective.

One can easily mislead oneself into believing that learning a lot
means progress. Time and energy are limiting factors of mine,
which easily lead me into in-a-hurry mentality, which I came to
realize, will only make things worst. I later adopt a learning by
doing approach, focusing on forward motion, no matter how
slow or small the steps are. And as the time went by, I begin
to see my steps getting bigger and a momentum starting
    to build up.

    Thanks for your inspirations.

    Cheers
    Jason Ser

      1. Thank you, Jason, I won’t disappoint you.

You are absolutely right, starting with baby steps and consistently moving forward starts building momentum, no doubt about that.

I use the boardroom form time to time to make sure that the momentum carries me in the right direction. Nothing worse than realising after a lot of effort that one has ended up where one didn’t want to be.

Best of luck with your steps.

  3. Nice board room max!

Yeah, information overload is one of the biggest focus killers out there, but I know you’re aware of that and keeping it under wraps.

It’s great that you had such a productive time and I’m really looking forward to your video course as I’m learning video too.

Keep up the good work my friend

    1. I am spending a bit of time in the home of “too many shiny new things” aka yet another Internet marketing seminar. 🙂

So far, I resisted buying anything, although WP Mage looked VERY interesting. But I got a lot of great inspiration that will help me reshape my business. I’ll write about it soon.

  4. Max,

Sometimes we all need to take stock and go back to the planning board.

You’re right about going to that seminar. Be careful.

When you go to these seminars, you should have a VERY specific goal about why you are going there.

is it for a specific bit of information that you saw will be available there? Is it to network? Or is it to get a particluar product that will be of value to you right now in your business?

I really look forward to your video series.

    Thanks for the post Max.

    Reach new heights,

    Nathan

    1. You’re right, Nathan. Visiting homes of shiny new things is dangerous. But this time I am after information, not products.

Good stuff today on product creation and a few minor, but still very useful tips. Is it worth spending the time there? It all depends on how much I will apply what I learn.

      As usual.

      Be good.

      Max

  5. Max:

Excellent job on the video. I have to say that they are getting better and better.

Thanks for sharing how to come up with ideas and how you come out with an outline or maybe even a plan of action.

It’s awesome to see you have 2 projects in the works and that they are both moving forward.

Good luck and I look forward to using them and helping you promote them.

    1. Thank you, Rick. I just got back from another two hours in the boardroom (alas, without my daughter). Very fruitful session again.

I find sitting at my desk not particularly productive, I just waste time watching Wimbledon, the pacifists in SA (or not, as the case may be), and various video sales letters that are announced to be 17 minutes long when they take the best part of 45 minutes without the possibility of parole if you want to find out how much and what.

Anyhow, I’ll definitely let you know as soon as the first project is nearing completion.

  6. Hey Matt:
Thanks for sharing your experiences. I used to think that getting up and leaving the office for a couple of hours was being unproductive. I find that it is necessary. Can’t shoot for the stars when your nose is to the grindstone.
    And…
Your videos keep getting better and better. What kind of equipment are you using? What software do you use? Inquiring minds want to know. : )

    1. Thank you for the compliment, Jules.

Video production is simple: Flip camcorder (not even HD), MS PowerPoint 2010 for title and credits, Windows Movie Maker 2.6 for editing.
As you see, no sophisticated video editing software and basic hardware.
Everything will be shown in the upcoming video series.

      Max
