Please, Help Me Choose An Avatar!

Do you like to be recognised, caricatured, or do you prefer to stay anonymous? A pretty reliable rule of thumb says that a picture helps people remember you.

When people started leaving comments on my blog with their avatars, I actually liked it that I could see who the person was. Then a realisation bubbled up to the surface of my mind: I should do this, too. But what should I use?

I googled “creating avatars” and discovered a few interesting sites that let you create your avatars for free. Here is one I played with (you can see the results below):
http://www.planetcreation.co.uk/createpic/

You can create a caricatures of yourself at http://www.osoq.com/ and even distort your photo to your heart’s content at http://www.magixl.com/heads/index.php. Of course, any picture editor (such as http://paint.net) lets you apply all sorts of artistic and other effects to an image.

Now I face a merciless dilemma: which avatar to choose?

My Avatar Collection

I can’t decide. Please, help me! Let me know which one you prefer. I shall bow to the vote of the majority (just as they did a few days ago with the mother of all parliaments…)

Once chosen, I’ll upload it to www.gravatar.com (thank you, Sally) and will then forever be A, B, C or D.

  1. Thank you so much, everyone, for your suggestions.

I have taken all your comments into account, and after democratically counting the ballot papers also of those who had queued but had not been able to vote, events overtook the final count and forced my hand.

You can see that I went for B. The reason for this decision will be made abundantly clear in my next blog post. Currently, I am sworn to secrecy so cannot say more. 😀

    All will be revealed shortly.

    Max

  2. My vote is definitely for B. I like to get a feel for the person when I read their stuff, and it is hard to get a feel for them when you see a cartoon graphic. My second choice is D…looks pretty cool and is still you. Good luck with your final decision!

  3. Hello Max,

Thanks for the graphics tip over at MWA forum.
I still however am probably going to outsource it.

As for your avatar problem, I highly vote for #4.
Very cool and if you don’t use it, I think I may end up with something similar.
But of course, your daughter’s may get you a few points down the road anmd a better father’s day present.

I look forward to working with you,
    Doug

  4. Hey Max

You’ve got to go with B man, although it’s hard to go against something that your daughter made. These girls have got us round their little fingers.

    Brilliant blog you’ve got here.

I’ll be back to post more comments another time.

    Reach new heights

    Nathan
