How To Add The WOW Factor To Your Ebook

How often do you think “Oh NO, NOT another one!!!”?

It happens a lot to me not just when I hit yet another endless chain of upsells after another interminably long sales video without controls.NOT ANOTHER UPSELL!!!

No, it even happens when I see yet another offer of a “FREE EBOOK, NO OPT-IN REQUIRED! – Click here to download your FREE copy.”

My hard drive is bursting. I don’t know any longer how many of these ebooks on which topic lurk where in the deepest recesses of my laptop. Why should I want to follow yet another clickable link to yet another freebie?

Unless, of course, I am attracted to it.

I know, you are getting impatient. That thing up on the right is moving and you finally want to know all about it. Go on, click on it and come back later if you’re so impatient.

Or, perhaps, you have already clicked on it.

In either case, I made my point:

It’s a free ebook, no opt-in required.

And you are attracted to it.

You can create one yourself at Yudu.com. That, too, is free.

The embed code they give you can be used for websites and blogs – in post, widgets or pages.

But that’s not all. It has a hidden WOW factor that makes it really attractive.

This hidden WOW factor is another twist on the ‘ultimate going viral’ theme:

We are always encouraged to give away good content for free.

The BIG question everyone asks is “How am I going to benefit from giving something away for free?”

Here is one method:

You embed clickable links into your ebook, as I have done in mine. You use the Yudu attraction factor to post it on your website. The great thing is that Yudu will keep your links clickable. How cool is that!

This is priceless. This state of the art presentation of your ebook makes it pretty much irresistible. Your visitors simply want to click on it.

Then give them a download link. Either way, when your visitors pass on your ebook or the link to your page, they pass on your links.

What do you think?

Go on, click on it. And leave a comment if you like this. I would appreciate it.

  1. I never heard of yudu.com. Sounds great! I’m going to link your blog post from my blog because it definitely qualifies as a fabulous shoestring method! -Norene

  2. What’s up, Max!

I like the viral aspect of Yudu.com.

I think I remember seeing this ability on another web site.. can’t remember the name.
But I didn’t think of using it to offer up my eBooks on my site.

and also didn’t look into clickable links.

Good use of an existing tool, Max. I’d be interested to know how this works for you. Does Yudu track the number of views, and give other useful stats?

Also, would you use this in place of your opt-in forms for your free eBooks? Or in addition to (for lesser value eBooks, perhaps)?

    Thanks for sharing!

    1. Hi Bolaji,

Yours must be the speed record in commenting after posting 🙂

The overall answer is Yes. Your questions take this WOW factor thing a few important steps further.

Initially, I intended this only for freebies without opt-in. It certainly attracts the eye and gets the index finger active on the left mouse button.

I did try other sites but Yudu is by far the most attractive. Still, Scribd.com is good, too (clickable links and a direct link to the document) while Calameo.com lets you embed the document with links but only takes you to a Calameo page where you have to find the document again and click on it to read it. Too many steps for my liking.

There are options of making viral ebooks even more effective by embedding an opt-in form in the ebook (pdf file) itself. I haven’t tested this yet with Yudu but certainly will do so in the not too distant future.

So, there are quite a few options how this can be expanded along the lines you suggest. And as far as tracking goes, I am doing this via the links that I embedded in the ebook. Of course, this can be refined by adding a tracking ID to each link. Still, I prefer to walk before I try running.

Thanks for your comment, Bolaji. I’ll now head over to your site to watch your Fear of Failure.

      Max
